Safeguarding

This organisation is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

St Nicholas C of E Primary School is fully committed to safeguarding pupils within its care. We recognise our moral and statutory responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of all pupils. We endeavour to provide a safe and welcoming environment where children are respected and valued. We are alert to the signs of abuse and neglect and follow our procedures to ensure that children receive effective support, protection and justice. All staff are trained and annual training updates keep adults informed of any safeguarding and Prevent updates and current initiatives. Our policies follow National and Local Authority guidelines. All adults, including volunteers, are rigorously checked before starting at St Nicholas C of E Primary School, having clear safeguarding procedures both on site and for activities off the school site.

Senior staff and governors are trained in safer recruitment procedures. All senior leaders, including Phase Leaders and SENCo have received more in depth Safeguarding Lead training through Warwickshire County Council.

Prevent is a government strategy designed to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorist or extremist causes. The Prevent strategy covers all types of terrorism and extremism, including the extreme right wing, violent Islamist groups and other causes.

In school, children are encouraged to use their support network when they have a concern that they would like to share. For those children who need to talk but aren't ready to initiate the conversation, they can use our phase Chatterboxes by completing a form (see below) or popping their photo in the box. These boxes are checked regularly by staff within each phase.
