Music

Music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity. As pupils progress, they should develop a critical engagement with music, allowing them to compose and to listen with discrimination to the best in the musical canon.” (The National Curriculum)

At St Nicholas CoE we believe that music is more than just a subject.

Music fuels emotions, supports our development and is engrained into the culture of our school. Music here, provides opportunities for enjoyment, collaboration, concentration, time management, patience and personal development.

Singing plays a vibrant role in school life and is the bedrock of music in our primary school.

St Nicholas embeds music into the school day, week and year supplementary to the curriculum. It is our wish that as pupils move through the school they experience a variety of opportunities and learn to unlock the power that music can provide.

In addition to class music, regular singing in assemblies, extra-curricular opportunities and instrumental music tuition is offered.

All our instrumental lessons are delivered by music specialists. Both IMS (a choice of instruments) and DC Music (violin) come into school and conduct lessons during the school day.

There is a charge for the music tuition which is payable on a termly basis and the cost is dependent on the amount of time required and the number of children in each group.

EXTRA CURRICULAR OPPORTUNITIES

IMS Music Lessons at St Nicholas Primary School

New Starters - September 2024 (Existing students do not need to reapply)

We have a few spaces for children in Y3 and above to start music lessons in September. Lessons take place during the school day. Learning an instrument gives children a special skill which helps develop their confidence, self-esteem and individuality. It also boosts cognitive thinking and overall academic achievement.

We are offering the choice of Drums, Guitar, Keyboard, Classical Piano (Individual Lessons Only), Recorder, Clarinet (Y4+), Flute (Y4+) and Saxophone (Y5+). Shared lessons (£6pw) are ideal for beginners but we also offer 20 minute individual lessons (£13.50pw) for those who are already underway and would like more time. We have clarinets, flutes & saxophones available for hire for £17 per term (equivalent to £1pw!).

In the unlikely event that we are oversubscribed priority will be given to the oldest children. To enrol please go to www.independentmusicsolutions.co.uk and click on "Enrol for Music Lessons". Please enrol before the end of the summer term.

We look forward to working with your children in September

Music Soirée

What a fantastic evening at our first musical soirée

Thank you to all the children that performed, with such courage, in front of their families and friends.

A huge thank you to staff and peripatetic teachers for all their hard work practising for and organising such an event.

Friends of Alcester St Nicholas CofE Primary thank you for the great cakes and refreshments!

Music - BBC ten pieces

While practising for our BBC ten pieces stop motion project, we experimented with the stop motion app in music- had to share this one by Jess P and Mia-Lily in 6G.

St Nicholas Choir

Last term St. Nick's Singers had a lot of fun with silly singing games and warm-ups, getting our bodies and voices ready to sing. We learned about singing rounds - how fun (and tricky!) they can be to master and prepared three songs ready for a super performance to families and the whole school. The children did brilliantly and brought many smiles to faces.
