Music

Music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity. As pupils progress, they should develop a critical engagement with music, allowing them to compose and to listen with discrimination to the best in the musical canon.” (The National Curriculum)

At St Nicholas CoE we believe that music is more than just a subject.

Music fuels emotions, supports our development and is engrained into the culture of our school. Music here, provides opportunities for enjoyment, collaboration, concentration, time management, patience and personal development.

Singing plays a vibrant role in school life and is the bedrock of music in our primary school.

St Nicholas embeds music into the school day, week and year supplementary to the curriculum. It is our wish that as pupils move through the school they experience a variety of opportunities and learn to unlock the power that music can provide.

In addition to class music, regular singing in assemblies, extra-curricular opportunities and instrumental music tuition is offered.

All our instrumental lessons are delivered by music specialists. Both IMS (a choice of instruments) and DC Music (violin) come into school and conduct lessons during the school day.

There is a charge for the music tuition which is payable on a termly basis and the cost is dependent on the amount of time required and the number of children in each group.

NEW OPPORTUNITY: KS2 SINGING CLUB

🎸 ROCK ACADEMY LIVE – A DAY TO REMEMBER! 🎶

On February 11th, Alcester Academy joined forces with some of our most talented Year 5 and 6 musicians for an electrifying day of music-making! From learning a brand-new song to collaborating as a true rock ensemble—and even mastering live performance technology—the students transformed into real rock stars.

The excitement peaked in the afternoon as our newly formed rock band (name coming soon!) took the stage, delivering a high-energy performance for all of Key Stage 2, along with an enthusiastic audience of parents, carers, and grandparents.

It was an unforgettable experience, filled with passion, teamwork, and pure musical magic. Well done to our incredible young musicians—you rocked it! 🎸🔥

CLUBS

We are so lucky to provide children at St Nicholas with a choir club as well as a KS2 Singing club which provides the children with a more informal, yet still fun, place to sing songs that bring joy!

Children also have the opportunity to attend a recorder club

This year we also have a Musical Theatre club run by an outside agency. This is such a wonderful and engaging club where the children are learning so many skills and having the best time along the way!

If you know or would be interested in running a musical club at St Nicholas please contact the office. We would be delighted to hear from you!

CHOIR PERFORMANCES

Our wonderful school choir began their busy Christmas performance schedule on 29th November with a beautiful seasonal rendition at Minerva Mill. They were warmly received and did an outstanding job representing the school, making us all incredibly proud. Well done, girls—keep up the fantastic work!

Music Soirée

What a fantastic evening at our first musical soirée

Thank you to all the children that performed, with such courage, in front of their families and friends.

A huge thank you to staff and peripatetic teachers for all their hard work practising for and organising such an event.

Friends of Alcester St Nicholas CofE Primary thank you for the great cakes and refreshments!
